Naff Typography II

I didn't think that I would find two examples in one day without really looking.
Got home from work this evening and what should be amongst the post but this - a nice of example of Comic Sans Bold. It does not look serious at all.

Naff Typography I

Saw this whilst walking into town from work the other day.
I don't know what image this publication wants to project to its potential readership, but it is not a serious. Comic Sans (the typeface being misused here) should only be used for what it was designed for - comic books! Ban it. Would they put a picture of a clown on their publicity?

Ickly Puddy Cat

Found this picture whilst looking back through some of my old folders today. It was taken over 2.5 years ago, in my pre-digital days. This image was orginally a 35mm slide.

Moving

Finally had the phone call from the solicitor that I had been waiting for. We have finally exchanged. Moving on the 27th into storage. We went and looked at our temporary accommodation last night. It is nice to know that things are getting sorted.

TV

The TV repair man turned up. He looked and said he needed to order parts!

Waiting for the TV repair man...

I am currently sitting at home bored waiting for the TV repair man to arrive. He is supposed to be here this morning. I will just have to wait and see what time he turns up.

Went out today with the purpose of taking some photos. Ended up buying a photo magazine. It was just too cold outside.
Got home and this evening decided that the daffodils that have been sitting in the living room for the last week needed shooting. Here are the results (post photoshop).
I want to try and do some more black & white photography. Just need some warmer nicer weather (or some snow).

wet play

Drove to work today, our car was due for MOT, so I drove into work. As a result I didn't buy a newspaper this morning. Guess what? Nothing to read and it chucks it down with rain at lunchtime. One very boring hour.

moving...

We are in the process of moving. Why are solicitors so useless. We have finally after nearly three months had the contract for the sale of our flat. We should be moving at the end of the month. Then only six weeks living with friends before we can moving in to our new house.
The only problem is that we are due to move into the house the same week that our baby is due.

Dangerous activities (gardening)

Tom came into work today modeling the latest in NHS provided slings.
He had broken his little finger digging the garden - that well know dangerous activity. He is trying to cope one-handed!
Tom is the latest of the developers at work to damage themselves. Most of them don't fit into the normal stereotype of computer programmers of being pasty white and afraid of the outdoors. There is a regular supply of sporting (and now gardening) injuries amongst them.
Moral of this - don't be a developer in my office!

The challenge of design

I am very involved with the publicity for a week of community events being held in the summer of 2006.
As someone who has designed one-off pieces for churches and other organisations, producing a series of things ranging from bookmarks and cards through to A2 posters has been more of a challenge.
The latest has been the A2 posters - conceived to be a way of promoting the whole idea of the community programme to the local churches who have signed up. Sounds simple. No. A2 is a whole lot of a bigger area than I have worked with before. Also it is not a poster as such, but more of noticeboard backing sheet, so that different things can be added without the expense of producing new posters every couple of weeks. I think I have got it, but I am still waiting feed back from the rest of the team.
Thankfully I have a good friend who is not involved who is a great designer. He provides brilliant impartial advice on most things that I do. (He also gets me to check some of his stuff.) He is using some of my work as examples in a book (provisionally titled Ditch the Dayglo) on Church publicity. (More on this some other time I expect.)

Take-away woes

The local take-away changed hands not long ago. Service was just a bit slow. I think it would have been quicker to drive to another one in town than to have waited, but then it is only next door.

Wet Hands

This is one of my recent photos. Taken for the Churches Together in Wokingham Lent Course poster. Thanks to Bill for getting his hands very wet and cold on a chilly Sunday morning in January.

Busy few weeks

The next few weeks look like they are going to be busy.
I am involved in the publicity for the Big Idea, a big series of community events in Wokingham.
Also moving house and expecting first baby (well the wife is).
